Croatia: HOPS Announces CROPEX Auction for 2027 Electricity Procurement

The Croatian electricity transmission system operator, HOPS, has initiated an auction aimed at procuring electricity to address transmission system losses. This auction will take place on the CROPEX trading platform, which serves as a critical marketplace for electricity trading in the region.

Scheduled for 28 April 2024, the auction will allow participants to submit bids for a substantial delivery capacity. The procurement will cover a full year, from 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2027, with a consistent delivery profile of 10 MWh/h every day. This results in a total expected volume of 87,600 MWh over the entire period.

This initiative is significant as it aligns with ongoing efforts to optimize the electricity market in Croatia and ensure the reliability of the transmission system. By facilitating this auction, HOPS aims to enhance operational efficiency and mitigate losses that may arise during electricity transmission.

The auction process is designed to engage various market participants, reinforcing competitive dynamics within the energy sector. As stakeholders prepare for this event, its outcomes could have implications for pricing and supply stability within Croatia’s electricity market.
