Croatia: CROPEX reports September 2024 electricity trading volume down 15.2% from August

In September 2024, the Croatian energy exchange, CROPEX, reported a total electricity trading volume of 1,103,864.1 MWh, marking a 15.2% decrease from August. This total included 953,277 MWh traded on the day-ahead market and 150,587.1 MWh on the intraday market. Notably, the trading volume for September was 60% higher compared to the same month last year.

The average daily base price on the day-ahead market in September was €97.95/MWh, reflecting a 13.4% decline from the previous month. Meanwhile, the average euro-peak price reached €104.01/MWh, down 4.1% compared to August. On the intraday market, the average price was €99.80/MWh, which represents a 17.8% decrease from the prior month.

CROPEX continues to operate with 31 participants in the day-ahead market, maintaining the same number as the previous month, while 27 of these participants were also active on the intraday market. The average daily trading volume on the day-ahead market for September was 31,775.9 MWh.

CROPEX was launched on March 11, 2016, in collaboration with Nord Pool, Europe’s leading electricity exchange. It is co-owned by the Croatian electricity transmission system operator (HOPS) and the Croatian electricity market operator (HROTE). The intraday market was introduced in April 2017, and in June 2018, the day-ahead market was successfully coupled with the MRC markets through the Croatian-Slovenian border following a joint project of the Croatian and Slovenian transmission system operators and power exchanges.
