Croatia: CROPEX electricity trading volume rises 20.7% in May 2025

In May 2025, a total of 1,184,750.1 MWh of electricity was traded on Croatia’s energy exchange, CROPEX, marking a 20.7% increase compared to April. Of this volume, 922,968.8 MWh was traded on the day-ahead market and 261,781.1 MWh on the intraday market. Compared to May 2024, the traded volume rose by 19%.

The average daily base price on the day-ahead market in May was 83.88 euros/MWh, representing a 1.1% decrease from the previous month. The average peak price for the same period was 57.8 euros/MWh, down 7% from April. Conversely, the average price on the intraday market increased by 5.5% to 87.44 euros/MWh.

CROPEX had 33 participants on the day-ahead market in May, the same number as in April, with 31 also active on the intraday market. The average daily traded volume on the day-ahead market reached 29,773.2 MWh.

CROPEX was established on 11 March 2016 in cooperation with Nord Pool, Europe’s leading electricity exchange, and is co-owned by the Croatian electricity transmission system operator (HOPS) and the Croatian electricity market operator (HROTE). The intraday market was introduced in April 2017. Since 19 June 2018, CROPEX’s day-ahead market has been successfully coupled with the Market Coupling Region (MRC) markets through the Croatian-Slovenian border, following a joint project between the Croatian and Slovenian transmission system operators and power exchanges.
