Unit 6 of Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant Returns to Service
The electricity generation at Bulgaria’s only nuclear power facility, the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant, has recommenced with its Unit 6 successfully synchronized to the national grid on December 24 at 11:22 AM. This development marks a significant operational recovery for the plant after scheduled maintenance activities.
Maintenance and Safety Checks Completed
The restart of Unit 6 followed comprehensive technical verifications, laboratory analyses, and external inspections conducted by independent organizations. These measures were essential in ensuring safety and reliability post-maintenance. Notably, faulty protective membrane components within the turbine’s steam reheater system were identified and replaced as part of these procedures; these components are categorized under the conventional section of the unit rather than its nuclear systems.
Continued Operations from Other Units
With Unit 6 back online, operations continue smoothly across other units at Kozloduy. Specifically, Unit 5 remains active and is consistently delivering electricity according to planned schedules. The successful maintenance and return to service of both units enhance Bulgaria’s energy security amid ongoing demands for stable power supply in the region.
