Bulgaria’s sole nuclear power plant Kozloduy said that its 1,000 MW unit 6 was reconnected to the network in the early hours of 1 November, following the completion of an annual maintenance with started in late September.
The statement from the company said that during the downtime, the power plant carried out works on the repair and maintenance of unit’s equipment and the reactor was reloaded with fresh nuclear fuel.
Originally, NPP Kozloduy had six reactors, but four older 440 MW reactors were shut down in 2007 due to nuclear safety concern of the European Union. The plant currently operates two Soviet- built 1,000 MW reactors, unit 5 and unit 6 which were commissioned in 1987 and 1991 respectively.
