Bulgaria cuts wholesale gas price by 3.8% for August 2025

The Bulgarian Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (KEVR) has approved a 3.8% reduction in the wholesale price of natural gas for August 2025. The new price stands at approximately 31.7 euros per megawatt-hour, excluding VAT and excise duties. This follows a 0.6% price increase that was approved for July.

The pricing decision takes into account the full volume of Azeri natural gas delivered through the Bulgaria-Greece Interconnector, supplied under a long-term agreement with Azerbaijan. These deliveries cover a significant portion of Bulgaria’s domestic demand and play a key role in maintaining a competitive unit price.

In parallel, the state-owned company Bulgargaz secured additional liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies for August through contracts awarded in a competitive tender. The tender process established a minimum delivery price and defined payment terms. The acquired LNG volumes will help Bulgargaz meet its obligations to end suppliers, district heating operators, and industrial clients under bilateral agreements.
