Bulgaria’s state-owned gas supplier, Bulgargaz, has put forth a proposal for an increase in the wholesale natural gas price for April 2026. The suggested price is approximately 34.27 euros/MWh, marking a 5.12% rise from the March price of around 32.6 euros/MWh. This March figure itself reflects a modest increase of 0.9% compared to February’s rates.
The anticipated adjustment in the natural gas price comes as part of ongoing efforts by the Bulgarian government to align energy costs with current market conditions. The final decision regarding the natural gas pricing will be made by the Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (KEVR) on the first day of April. This approval process will incorporate updates to Bulgargaz’s proposal based on market evaluations and a public discussion scheduled for late March.
This proposed price increase may impact various sectors reliant on natural gas, including residential heating and industrial applications, as Bulgaria continues to navigate its energy landscape amidst fluctuating supply and demand dynamics. Stakeholders in the energy market will be closely monitoring these developments as they unfold, particularly in light of broader regional trends affecting energy pricing and availability.
The regulatory framework guiding such price adjustments is crucial, as it ensures that changes reflect both consumer interests and market realities. As Bulgaria prepares for this potential shift, the implications for energy policy and economic stability remain significant considerations for policymakers and industry leaders alike.
