Bosnia and Herzegovina is set to build its first solar power plant along the Corridor Vc highway, following European trends of integrating renewable energy with transport infrastructure.
The public company JP Autoceste Federacije BiH has launched a tender for the design of a photovoltaic facility valued at around 150,000 euros, while the total project cost is estimated to exceed 210 million euros.
The planned solar plant will have an installed capacity of 283.7 MW and is expected to cut carbon dioxide emissions by 232,772 tons annually. All electricity produced will be consumed by JP Autoceste under a prosumer model, providing direct benefits to the company’s operations. An internal analysis highlighted several advantages, including the use of land already owned by the highway operator and potential reductions in energy costs. Challenges remain, however, such as the high initial investment and ongoing maintenance needs.
At present, 16 out of 19 measurement points along Corridor Vc are connected to the EPBiH network, with the remaining three linked to EP HZHB.
The tender has been split into two parts: Lot 1, valued at 135,000 euros, for the design of the solar plant, and Lot 2, worth 15,000 euros, for project revision. Bidders may apply for only one lot, and the application deadline is 7 October.
