Gross electricity production in Bosnia and Herzegovina reached 1,065 GWh in June, up from 1,000 GWh in June 2025. Thermal generation accounted for 60.2% of gross output, while hydropower contributed 29.7%. Wind and solar together provided 10.1%.
Net hydropower production increased by 20.3% year on year to 302 GWh. Thermal power stations generated 574 GWh, rising by 0.9%. Combined wind and solar output reached 108 GWh, up 6.9%.
Imports and exports shift with higher domestic generation
The stronger generation profile lowered Bosnia and Herzegovina’s requirement for imported electricity. As a result, exports increased during the month. Electricity imports fell by 7.2% to 348 GWh, compared with 375 GWh in June 2025.
Exports moved in the opposite direction, rising by 13.9% to 598 GWh. This compares with 525 GWh exported in June 2025. The change reflected the overall improvement in electricity output alongside the generation mix.
Coal and gas supply trends in June
The production increase occurred alongside weaker domestic mining volumes. Lignite output declined by 8.2% to 360,000 tonnes. Brown-coal production fell by 11.2% to 450,000 tonnes.
Natrual gas imports also declined during June, reaching 5.86mn cu m. This was around 33% lower than the 8.74mn cu m imported in the same month last year. The figures show reduced reliance on imported fuel inputs alongside higher power output.
Hydropower availability supports the electricity balance
The June data indicate that improved hydropower availability was a key factor behind the strengthened electricity balance. Higher hydro generation helped offset declining coal production while supporting increased net exports into surrounding SEE markets. Net hydropower rose to 302 GWh, while thermal output remained at 574 GWh.
