The city of Zaječar in eastern Serbia is advancing a significant hybrid renewable energy project that integrates wind, solar, and energy storage technologies. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance Serbia’s renewable energy capabilities and diversify its energy portfolio.
The project, being developed by local firm Vida Energy, is set to cover approximately 1,632 hectares across multiple cadastral zones. It aims to create a comprehensive hybrid energy system that leverages various renewable resources to meet growing energy demands.
Key components of the proposal include the installation of 32 wind turbines and dedicated photovoltaic fields as part of the “Sunce” solar project. In addition, the incorporation of battery storage capacity will facilitate better management of renewable energy output, addressing the challenges posed by intermittency in generation.
The anticipated total installed capacity for this facility is around 370 MW, positioning it as one of the largest renewable energy projects in the region. This development reflects a shift from an earlier concept introduced two years ago, which proposed a larger land area and slightly lower capacity. The current design represents a strategic optimization that aligns with contemporary priorities in the energy sector.
If approved, this hybrid project would significantly bolster Serbia’s renewable energy portfolio, enhancing system flexibility and promoting greater integration of clean energy sources into the national grid. Such advancements are crucial for meeting both domestic energy needs and broader environmental goals.
