Soma B Thermal Power Plant, in the Manisa province of Turkey, was privatized on Tuesday through a tender which was won by Konya Seker Sanayi ve Ticaret, Konya Sugar Industry and Trade, for $685.5 million.
The power plant, which is a lignite-fired production plant, has a capacity of 900 megawatts with six power units.
Turkey’s Konya Seker Sanayi ve Ticaret made a $685.5 million non-binding offer for the Soma B Thermal Power Plant and won the tender in Turkey’s capital Ankara.
A total of four companies entered the bidding process. Two companies, Konya-Seker and Kalyon Construction qualified for the final bid round.
The Turkish government will assess the value of the bid and will make a decision to approve it or not in due course.
The Soma Thermal Power Plant is situated in the Soma district of Manisa province, in the area where the Soma mine incident occurred on May 13, 2014 resulting in the fatalities of 301 miners. It is located 90 kilometers from Manisa and 130 kilometers from Izmir.
