Romanian OPCOM day-ahead prices rise in June 2026 amid falling traded volumes

Day-ahead pricing on OPCOM in June 2026

The average electricity price on the Romanian OPCOM day-ahead market (DAM) reached €122.99/MWh in June 2026. This compares with a 12.25% increase versus May, when the average baseload price was €109.56/MWh. On a year-on-year basis, the June average was 42.78% higher than in June 2025.

The DAM price movement in June 2026 occurred alongside stronger wholesale market conditions and increased price pressure across the regional electricity market.

Day-ahead volumes and transaction values

Despite higher prices, trading activity on the day-ahead market declined in June 2026. Total traded volume reached 0.89 million MWh, down 20.05% from May and down 23.38% compared with June 2025. The average traded volume during the month was 1,233.8 MWh per hour, indicating reduced participation.

The total value of transactions on the OPCOM DAM rose to €117.7 million in June 2026. This was 11.56% higher than in June 2025, when transaction value stood at €105.5 million. At the same time, it represented a 2.19% decline versus May’s €120.3 million.

The year-on-year increase in transaction value was driven by significantly higher electricity prices, even as traded volumes were lower.

Share of consumption covered by day-ahead trading

The OPCOM day-ahead market accounted for 26.71% of Romania’s forecasted net electricity consumption in June 2026. This share reflects the DAM’s role as a reference platform for wholesale electricity trading and price formation within the country.

Intraday market activity declines

Trading activity also fell on the intraday market during June 2026. Total intraday traded volume reached 117,391.6 MWh, down 41.3% versus June 2025 and down 13.43% versus May 2026. The reduction points to weaker short-term trading volumes.

Market participants continued to require intraday trading to manage renewable generation variability, demand changes and balancing requirements .

Liquidity and regional context for June results

The June figures show a combination of higher prices and lower liquidity in Romania’s electricity market. Wholesale costs increased alongside regional market conditions while trading volumes weakened on both day-ahead and intraday timeframes .

OPCOM continued to provide a reference point for day-ahead and intraday price formation in Southeast Europe.
