Romania has connected a 120 MWh battery energy storage system associated with Teiuș to the grid following completion in Alba County. The project adds to the country’s operational energy storage capacity. It also aligns with continued expansion of renewable generation.
Project delivery and contracting
The battery project was delivered by Allview Energy, the renewable energy arm of Romanian technology company Visual Fan. The work was carried out on behalf of Teiuș Solar, a local subsidiary of Danish renewable developer Eurowind Energy. Visual Fan executed the scope under a turnkey engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract.
Under the EPC arrangement, Visual Fan oversaw system design, equipment procurement, construction works, installation, technical integration, testing, and final commissioning. The battery system is now among the more significant storage projects currently operating in Romania. The project’s commissioning status follows its completion and grid connection.
2025 contract value for storage development
The storage development contract was awarded to Visual Fan in 2025. At the time of award, the agreement value was more than €16.6 million. The contract covered development of the storage facility that has since been connected to the grid.
Large-scale battery systems are increasingly relevant as Romania expands renewable capacity. Storage is used to hold surplus electricity and support grid reliability. It also contributes to balancing intermittent renewable generation and improving grid stability and flexibility.
Related Teiuș solar plant commissioning
The Teiuș solar power plant linked to the same project area has an installed capacity of 69 MW. Eurowind Energy commissioned the solar facility in April 2025. The battery system’s operational status follows that commissioning timeline.
