Rising Solar Output and Mixed Wind Energy Trends in Europe

As April progresses, solar photovoltaic energy production has shown a marked increase across several major European markets, reflecting a significant shift in energy dynamics. During the week of April 6, Germany led the surge with a remarkable 32% rise in solar output, marking its second consecutive week of growth. Italy also demonstrated strong performance with a 22% increase, while France recorded an 18% gain. In contrast, the Iberian Peninsula reported declines in solar production, with Spain and Portugal experiencing reductions of 6.1% and 12%, respectively.

Noteworthy achievements in production were recorded across key markets during this period. Italy reached its second-highest daily output for April on April 7, generating 146 GWh. Following closely, Germany and France set all-time highs for April on the 8th and 9th, producing 426 GWh and 136 GWh, respectively. Spain and Portugal also contributed significantly to the overall output on April 10, with their second-highest production levels of 200 GWh and 22 GWh.

Looking ahead to the week of April 13, forecasts from AleaSoft Energy Forecasting predict an anticipated increase in photovoltaic production for both Italy and Spain. However, Germany is expected to see a decline in its solar output during this time.

<pIn the wind energy sector, trends have been less consistent. The second week of April saw a significant rebound in Portugal's wind energy production with a striking increase of 79%, following two weeks of downward trends. Conversely, Spain, Germany, France, and Italy continued to experience declines for the second consecutive week. Spain faced the smallest decrease at 20%, while Italy reported the most substantial drop at an alarming rate of 60%. Additionally, Germany and France noted reductions of 27% and 38%, respectively.

Looking towards the third week of April, forecasts indicate a potential recovery in wind energy production for Italy; however, other analyzed markets are expected to continue facing challenges with further declines in output.
