Republika Srpska: Resume of FGD TPP Ugljevik project expected

The desulphurization project in the TPP Ugljevik represents one of the major environment investment projects in Bosnian energy sector, namely entity of Republika Srpska.

Due to the high content of sulphur in the used coal (5 to 6 percent), the power plant emits up to 100.00 tons of SO2 annually which makes it one of the largest polluters in the Republic of Srpska.

The funds for financing the desulphurization project have been provided from a loan of the Japanese Government. In 2009, a loan agreement worth 93 million euros was signed with the Japanese agency JICA. The agreement envisages that the Mine and Thermal Power Plant Ugljevik should participate in the project with 24 million euros.

The prequalification phase has been finished by the selection of four potential contractors ( Alstom, Andritz, MHE, SBENGI), technical evaluation should be completed and the opening of received financial bids is expected. Remains unclear why there is a delay in project realization.

In addition to the stated projects, the implementation of desulphurization projects ensues in several thermal power plants in BiH – Tuzla, Kakanj and Gacko , transmits Serbia-energy.eu
