In a significant move for renewable energy development in Romania, Greenvolt Group has announced the acquisition of €58.5 million in project financing aimed at advancing the construction of an onshore wind farm near Sacele, located in the Dobrogea region. This project will contribute a total capacity of 48.9 MW to the national grid.
The financing support comes from Erste Group Bank AG and Banca Comercială Română (BCR), ensuring a robust financial foundation as construction progresses. The wind farm is projected to be operational by the second quarter of 2026, marking an important milestone in Romania’s renewable energy landscape.
The Sacele wind farm is integral to Greenvolt’s strategic expansion within central and eastern Europe, where Romania is identified as a pivotal market for growth. The company underscores the significance of this region not only for its decarbonization initiatives but also for strengthening national energy security and decreasing dependency on imported fossil fuels.
Greenvolt has established a diverse renewable energy portfolio in Romania, which includes 555 MW from wind projects, 77 MW from solar installations, and 156 MW from battery storage solutions. Additionally, through its subsidiary Greenvolt Next, the group is engaged in providing distributed generation solutions that cater to corporate and industrial sectors.
By integrating large-scale renewable generation with flexible storage options and decentralized energy solutions, Greenvolt is positioning itself as a key player in facilitating Romania’s energy transition. This approach aims to enhance the resilience and sustainability of the country’s electricity system amidst ongoing shifts towards greener energy sources.
