Finnish Investor Korkia Receives Approval for 320 MW Solar and Storage Project in Romania

In a significant advancement for renewable energy in Romania, Finnish investor Korkia has obtained grid connection approvals for a substantial solar and battery storage portfolio. This project, located in Teleorman County, features a combined capacity of 320 MW of solar power alongside 303 MW of integrated energy storage.

The initiative, referred to as the Alexandria portfolio, aims to achieve network connectivity by 2028. Korkia has indicated that the existing transmission infrastructure is adequate to support the new capacity, negating the need for further grid enhancements.

This portfolio encompasses three distinct projects, all on track to reach construction readiness by late 2026. The recent approvals were secured under the current regulatory environment, which is poised for upcoming reforms introducing competitive auctions for grid access. By obtaining these permits now, Korkia mitigates regulatory risks and enhances the long-term feasibility of its investments.

Korkia made its entry into the Romanian market in 2024, collaborating with Econous Green Energy to develop a local operational framework. The company is also pursuing additional hybrid projects within Romania that are pending grid approval, including storage capacities of 268 MW and 250 MW.

This portfolio aligns with Korkia’s strategic goal of expanding its footprint across vital European markets while fostering the development of large-scale integrated renewable energy and storage solutions, contributing to broader energy transition objectives.
