EPS earns EUR 34.5 million from electricity sale

The Electric Power Industry of Serbia (EPS) earned EUR 34.5 million from electricity sale on the free market over the five months of 2011, director of the EPS Directorate for Electricity Trade Dragan Vlaisavljevic stated on Saturday.

The Electric Power Industry of Serbia (EPS) earned EUR 34.5 million from electricity sale on the free market over the five months of 2011, director of the EPS Directorate for Electricity Trade Dragan Vlaisavljevic stated on Saturday.

In the first five months of the year, EPS sold 631 gWh of electricity, which is almost the equal amount it sold in the same period 2010, when the company marketed 644 gWh and earned EUR 24.9 million, Vlaisavljevic said in an interview for Tanjug.

At the same time, EPS purchased 257 gWh at the total price of EUR 13.3 million, while the amount of electricity it purchased in the same period last year totalled 137 gWh, at the price of EUR 6.4 million.

Vlaisavljevic explained that EPS purchased electricity this year at a price some 11 per cent higher than in 2010, but also sold it at some 40 per cent higher price because of the general trend of electricity price increase on the market, caused by the closing of nuclear power plants in Germany and the drought in the south-east Europe region.

For approximately the same amount of energy it sold this year, EPS got some 40 per cent more money than in 2010, Vlaisavljevic specified.
