Electrica produced about 21 GWh of electricity in the first half of 2026, exceeding four times its output from a year earlier. The increase coincided with expansion of the Romanian energy group’s generation portfolio.
Generation output and operating facilities
Production rose by approximately 338% from 4.8 GWh in the first six months of 2025. Electricity generation during the period came from the Stanesti, Vulturu and Satu Mare 2 facilities. Satu Mare 2 entered Electrica’s operating portfolio in the fourth quarter of last year.
Even with the higher generation, output remains small relative to Electrica’s distribution and retail activities. Electricity transported through the group’s networks slipped by about 0.5% to 8,905 GWh. The figures indicate that transport volumes did not follow the same pace as generation.
Transport volumes and retail supply trends
Retail supply declined by 9%, falling to 3,376 GWh from 3,710 GWh a year earlier. Deliveries in competitive markets were almost unchanged at 2,435 GWh. Most of the reduction therefore occurred in universal service and supplier-of-last-resort activities.
Universal service and supplier-of-last-resort deliveries dropped by around 26% to 941 GWh. Competitive-market volumes remained broadly stable over the comparison period.
Consumption points and customer mix
The number of consumption points served by Electrica decreased from 3.42 million in June 2025 to 3.23 million in June 2026. Universal-service and last-resort customers accounted for most of the decline. Their numbers fell from 1.63 million to 1.46 million.
Electrica did not specify whether the contraction reflected customer migration, changes in consumption, or adjustments to its commercial portfolio. The reported figures nonetheless show generation taking on a more prominent role within the group’s overall activity levels, while distribution and supply remain on a much larger scale.
