In a significant development for energy supply in Southeast Europe, Greek gas company DEPA Trade has won an international tender organized by Bulgaria’s Bulgartransgaz. This cross-border gas supply agreement is poised to bolster the region’s energy security and cooperation.
The tender, facilitated through the Balkan Gas Hub, focuses on acquiring 500 GWh of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to meet the transmission system requirements of Bulgaria. The LNG cargo is expected to arrive at the Alexandroupoli Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) in early August, marking a crucial step in enhancing Bulgaria’s gas infrastructure.
Christos Basdekis, Director of Trading at DEPA Trade, emphasized that this successful bid underscores the importance of collaboration among regional stakeholders. He noted that such partnerships are vital for ensuring a reliable gas supply across Southeast Europe, especially in light of ongoing energy market fluctuations.
DEPA Trade’s operations span multiple markets in Southeastern Europe, reflecting its commitment to strengthening regional energy security. The company aims to engage in further cross-border initiatives that will enhance energy cooperation and reliability in the region’s gas supply chain.
