The gas transmission operators from Croatia, Plinacro, and Slovenia, Plinovodi, have reached an agreement aimed at enhancing the transport capacity at the Rogatec gas interconnection point. This initiative is designed to facilitate a more efficient flow of natural gas from Croatia to Slovenia, thereby strengthening the overall energy connectivity between the two nations.
This collaborative effort focuses on upgrading existing gas infrastructure to accommodate larger volumes of cross-border gas transmission. The expansion is projected to bolster supply reliability and enhance regional energy resilience, while also improving the integration of gas systems across Southeastern Europe.
The project will leverage ongoing enhancements to Croatia’s existing gas transmission network, which aims to increase overall transport capacity and provide better access to diverse gas supplies for adjacent markets. Both Plinacro and Plinovodi underscored the critical nature of sustained cooperation in establishing a secure and interconnected regional energy framework.
According to Plinacro, the Rogatec interconnection’s capacity could be enhanced to approximately 170,000 cubic meters per hour, contingent upon the completion of pipeline upgrades financed through Croatia’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Significant infrastructure improvements include the development of the Bosiljevo–Sisak and Kozarac–Sisak pipeline segments.
If upstream pressure conditions are satisfied, this expanded capacity may become operational by the end of December. This development signifies a notable advancement in regional energy cooperation, contributing to improved supply security across interconnected gas markets.
