Croatia Works on Zlobin – Bosiljevo gas pipeline started

Construction works on the 155 million euro Zlobin-Bosiljevo gas pipeline officially started on November 23, gas transmission system operator Plinacro announced. The project would help boost the security of domestic supply and increase gas transit towards Hungary and Slovenia.

The future 58 km long pipeline will allow Plinacro to increase the transmission of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the terminal on the island of Krk up to its full capacity of 3.5 billion cubic metres per year.

Financing for the project has been provided by the Croatian government. The construction works will be carried out by a local consortium led by the engineering company Monter – Strojarske Montaze, and they are expected to be completed in 2025.

The ongoing capacity increase of the Krk LNG terminal and the construction of the Zlobin – Bosiljevo gas pipeline will further diversify the routes and sources of natural gas supply to the Croatian market and create the main prerequisites for additional supplies to the European Union, Plinacro said in a statement.

The floating LNG terminal on Krk Island started operating in January 2021. It delivers natural gas to the national transmission network, which is connected to Slovenia, Italy and Hungary, as well as to Serbia and Montenegro.
