Croatia, El Sun Energy seeks approval for 950 MW PV project

El Sun Energy plans to build the largest solar power plant in Europe in Croatia, with a capacity of 950 MW. It would be almost twice as large as the currently largest PV power plant Nunez de Balboa of 500 MW. If you look at the plans, the power plant in Croatia would be the second largest because the realization of the Horizeo project with a capacity of 1,000 MW was recently announced in France.

El Sun Energy’s photovoltaic power plant is one of 216 plants on the list of potential investors interested in obtaining energy approval in Croatia. The public call for granting the approval was initiated by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, and the total power of all registered power plants is 6,000 MW.

Croatia also recently announced the first auctions for the award of premiums for large renewable energy power plants.

The location of the power plant is located between Å ibenik and Knin, in the municipality of Promina in Å ibenik-Knin County.

The mayor of Promina, Tihomir Budanko, told Å ibenik that the request for a 950 MW solar power plant was submitted by El Sun Energy, adding that it was only a non-binding expression of interest in order for a potential investor to obtain energy approval.

The space planned for this power plant is under the transmission line, it is an area of angry rubble that is not usable for anything else and the municipality has an interest in using it because it received a solid compensation, Budanko emphasized.

By the way, in the Å ibenik-Knin County, investors want to install solar power plants with a total capacity of over 1,000 MW. El Sun Energy plans to build two more photovoltaic power plants, 120 MW in Miljevci and 10 MW in Lozovac.

According to the Croatian registry, the owners of this company are Toni Rudolf Vlaić and Turkish Elin.
