Croatia: Dubica Energija developing third-largest solar power plant

Amidst high-profile energy investments, Cazma-based Dubica Energija is advancing a solar power plant near Hrvatska Dubica in Sisak-Moslavina County. With an installed capacity of 117.7 MW, the project will rank as the third-largest solar power plant in Croatia.

The country’s largest planned solar plants include Promina, developed by Spanish Acciona Energía, with a capacity of 150 MW, and Obrovac Sinjski, backed by Aureus Solis, with a capacity of 130 MW.

Dubica Energija has confirmed that the Hrvatska Dubica solar project has already received energy approval and is currently in the process of obtaining the necessary permits. The company noted that the project is still in its early stages, so additional details are not yet available.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition has initiated an environmental impact assessment for the project, which covers 121.7 hectares for the power plant and its associated infrastructure. Plans include the construction of 20 inverters, internal transformer stations with a voltage of 33 kV, and a main transformer station in Hrvatska Dubica.

The solar plant will be connected to the network via the existing Medjuric – Prijedor transmission line through the construction of the Hrvatska Dubica transformer station. The Ministry has launched a public consultation process for the project. If Dubica Energija successfully completes the environmental assessment and receives approval, the next steps will involve securing location and construction permits.

In addition to the projects by Acciona, Aureus Solis, and Dubica Energija, another major solar initiative under development is the Korlat project, led by the state-owned power utility HEP, with a planned capacity of 99 MW. Solar Energy is also working on a significant project in Oroslavje, with an installed capacity of 90 MW.
