Representatives of the Central European Initiative (CEI) will gather at the annual summit in Belgrade on Friday, tabling the European integration and promotion of cooperation, as well as competitiveness of the CEI members in the time of economic crisis, the CEI stated.
The gathering dubbed “Fresh Thinking for Competitive Economy in CEI” will be organized by the cabinet of the Serbian prime minister in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development, and is expected to see the participation of the prime ministers, ministers of economy of the CEI member states and other senior officials, the CEI website reads.
The Belgrade summit will involve representatives of various international and regional organizations and international financial institutions, such as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the World Bank, the Adriatic and Ionian Initiative (AII), the Organization for the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) and the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC).
Moreover, the participation of representatives of the European Commission (EC) is also expected, as the body is a traditional special guest of the CEI high-level events, the website of the organization founded in 1989 reads.
The program in Belgrade will be enriched with a business forum, organized by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, which will be an opportunity for representatives of business communities to present their view of the crisis’ aftermath.
Contrasting measures and initiatives will be proposed in order to protect the economies of the countries through a concerted regional approach, said the CEI.
According to the website, the forum will also serve to revitalise the CEI business dimension.
The CEI, comprised of 18 member states, is one of several regional initiatives chaired by Serbia in 2011.
