The Council of Ministers in Bosnia and Herzegovina has approved a significant financing agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB) aimed at supporting the construction of the Bitovnja wind farm. This decision, initiated by the Ministry of Finance and Treasury, aligns with the established framework agreement between the country and the EIB, facilitating a key investment in renewable energy infrastructure.
The EIB is set to provide up to €56 million for this project, which will be located in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, specifically near Konjic. The site is characterized by its mountainous terrain, with elevations ranging from 1,530 to 1,700 meters. This geographical setting is conducive to wind energy generation, enhancing the project’s viability.
As part of the financing arrangement, state-owned utility EPBiH will bear full responsibility for repaying the loan. This includes managing all financial risks associated with the project. To secure the loan, EPBiH is also obligated to furnish necessary guarantees and collateral.
The plans for the Bitovnja wind farm involve installing 15 wind turbines that will collectively generate approximately 90 MW of electricity. In addition to the turbines, essential infrastructure such as a substation, transmission connections, and access roads will be developed to support operations.
The overall investment for this renewable energy initiative is projected at around €100 million. Once operational, it is anticipated that the facility will produce a minimum of 110 GWh of electricity annually, significantly contributing to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s renewable energy capacity and sustainability goals.
