Environmental Assessment Procedure Launched
The Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina has initiated the initial assessment procedure for the Slovinj wind farm project, located in the municipality of Glamoč. This significant development follows a request from local developer Vjetroelektrane, which aims to secure approval for a preliminary environmental impact assessment (EIA).
Project Scope and Capacity
The proposed wind farm plans to install 23 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 6 MW, leading to a total project capacity of 138 MW. The anticipated annual energy generation from this facility is projected to be around 506 GWh. With an estimated investment value of approximately €136 million, the Slovinj project stands out as one of the largest wind energy initiatives currently under consideration in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Historical Context and Development Timeline
The groundwork for the Slovinj wind farm began in 2009, marked by extensive monitoring of wind speed and direction, which confirmed that the region is among Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most favorable sites for wind energy. Subsequent detailed studies were conducted in 2013 and 2021, focusing on wind conditions and site accessibility to optimize turbine placement. Each turbine is designed with a height of 102.5 meters and a blade span of 155 meters.
Regulatory Approvals Secured
This year, the Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry granted an energy permit to Vjetroelektrane, paving the way for construction of the 138 MW wind farm. The company behind this initiative is owned by Sirena Anstalt, a registered entity in Liechtenstein.
