ALPEX Sees Significant Growth in April 2026 Trading Activity

The Albanian electricity exchange, ALPEX, has reported robust growth in its trading volumes and market value for April 2026. The platform achieved a total traded electricity volume of 190.1 GWh, which marks an impressive increase of 15.2% compared to March 2026 and a substantial 48.7% rise from April 2025. This upward trend underscores the ongoing expansion and enhanced liquidity within the market.

Breaking down the traded volumes, the Kosovo bidding zone accounted for 111.4 GWh, while the Albania bidding zone saw 118.3 GWh traded. The average market clearing prices were recorded at 84.59 €/MWh for Albania and 84.95 €/MWh for Kosovo, leading to an overall average price of 84.77 €/MWh across ALPEX.

The total transaction value on ALPEX during April reached approximately 30.38 million euros, reflecting a significant 39.3% year-on-year increase. This growth is attributed to both higher trading volumes and stable price levels maintained across the two bidding zones.

ALPEX was established by Albania’s transmission system operator, OST, and Kosovo’s counterpart, KOSTT, in October 2020, with its inaugural auction held in April 2023. Since its inception, ALPEX has evolved into a key regional trading platform, now comprising 36 members that operate within the Albania and Kosovo bidding zones, thereby playing a critical role in the integration of regional electricity markets.
