The UK government has opted to extend a special sanctions license allowing certain Bulgarian subsidiaries of Russia’s Lukoil group to continue their operations. This extension, which prolongs the license’s validity by six months, is crucial for maintaining business continuity under the prevailing sanctions framework.
The Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI) has confirmed that the renewed general license will now remain effective until 13 August 2026. This authorization specifically pertains to several Bulgaria-based entities involved in various sectors, including refining, aviation fuel, and bunker fuel.
This license was initially activated on 14 November 2025, with an original expiration date set for mid-February 2026. The recent decision by UK authorities effectively extends the operational window for these companies, allowing them to engage in specific activities despite broader sanctions imposed on Russia.
The companies benefiting from this renewed authorization include Lukoil Bulgaria, Lukoil Neftochim Burgas, Lukoil Aviation Bulgaria, and Lukoil Bulgaria Bunker. All these entities have been explicitly named in communications from the UK Treasury, affirming their compliance with the conditions of the extended license.
