Solar PV growth across major markets in the week of May 25
During the week of May 25, solar photovoltaic (PV) generation increased across major European electricity markets compared with the previous week. The reported drivers were stronger seasonal conditions and improving irradiation levels. Germany and Spain recorded the largest growth, each rising by 17%, while Italy posted the smallest increase at 2.6%. France and Portugal also reported gains of 13% and 16%, respectively.
France and Spain extended their upward trend to four consecutive weeks of growth, according to the weekly figures. Germany and Italy continued a third straight week of increases. Portugal maintained a second consecutive week of expansion.
New solar output records reported from May 26 to May 29
Several markets reached new solar generation records over the same period, reflecting continued expansion of installed PV capacity across Europe. On May 26, Italy recorded its highest-ever solar output for a May day, producing 161 GWh. Two days later, on May 28, Germany and France set all-time solar production records at 503 GWh and 179 GWh, respectively.
The Iberian Peninsula followed on May 29, when Spain generated 265 GWh and Portugal produced 32 GWh. Both figures were described as historic highs for solar output in their respective markets.
AleaSoft forecasts for the week of June 1
For the week of June 1, forecasts from AleaSoft Energy Forecasting pointed to diverging trends across markets. Italy was expected to see further growth in solar production. Germany and Spain were projected to experience declines in output versus the previous week.
The forecast pattern was described as a short-term correction following recent record levels in those markets.
Wind generation performance in the fourth week of May
In the fourth week of May, wind energy production showed mixed performance across Europe. Germany and Portugal recorded increases compared with the previous week, with Germany posting the strongest rise at 14%. Portugal’s increase was reported at 0.2%.
By contrast, Italy, France, and Spain extended their downward trend in wind generation into a second consecutive week of decline. Among the declining markets, Italy saw the sharpest drop at 50%, followed by France with a 24% decrease. Spain recorded a smaller decline of 6.1%.
Wind outlook for the first week of June
For the first week of June, forecasts indicated a broad recovery in wind energy production across all analyzed markets. Output was expected to be higher than in the previous week as meteorological conditions improve, AleaSoft reports .
