Serbia: EPS and Vetrozelena signed contracts on electricity purchase, balancing and premiums

The contracts between Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) and Vetrozelena, which is owned by the companies PowerChina and CWP, are the first contracts based on the first auction for awarding premiums announced by Serbia, EPS announced.

Vetrozelena, with a capacity of 291 MW, is one of four projects that filled the quota of 400 MW in the first auction for wind power plants. The project received premiums for 210 MW.

EPS stated that after the completion of the construction of the Vetrozelena wind farm, which should be online at the end of 2025, it will take over all the electricity produced. The contracts were signed by Dušan Živković v. d. general director of EPS and directors of Vetrozelena Kitao Gao and Maja Turković.

According to Dušan Živković, the contracts are confirmation that EPS is a reliable partner for investors in green energy.

The purchase and balancing price was determined on market principles, which will enable EPS to continue the process of commercialization of the company, as well as additional profit,” stated Živković.

By purchasing electricity from renewable sources, EPS, as he added, increases the share of green energy in its portfolio, and this is important due to the energy transition and the introduction of “environmental taxes on electricity production”.

Dubravka Đedović Handanovć, Minister of Mining and Energy, pointed out that Vetrozelena is the first of the nine renewable energy power plants in the market premium system and the largest for which those incentives were granted.

As she stated, the wind farm will produce electricity for about 180,000 citizens, at the lowest price at the auction of about 64 euros per megawatt-hour, which is almost twice as low as the current market price.
