Rompetrol Rafinare Completes Maintenance at Petromidia and Vega Refineries

Rompetrol Rafinare has successfully concluded the mechanical phase of its extensive maintenance program at the Petromidia Năvodari and Vega Ploiești refineries. This significant achievement is pivotal for restoring both facilities to their normal operational capacity following a challenging turnaround process. The company has announced that the restart of production units will occur gradually over the next few days, adhering to rigorous safety and operational control protocols.

The recent maintenance campaign encompassed a comprehensive array of technical tasks across both refineries, totaling over 700 individual activities. Notably, this included the replacement of catalysts in six major processing units. Furthermore, the turnaround involved meticulous inspections of approximately 900 pieces of equipment, which covered static, rotating, and electrical systems, along with testing and verification of nearly 1,200 pipelines.

In conjunction with these engineering efforts, Rompetrol Rafinare has achieved a critical milestone by renewing and extending essential operating certifications from Romanian authorities such as ISCIR and CNCIR. As the turnaround process approaches its final phase, both refineries are poised to gradually recommence their supply of petroleum products to the market—an essential development given the current dynamics affecting producers and consumers alike.

This shutdown was executed as part of Rompetrol Rafinare’s planned maintenance schedule, which mandates major turnarounds every four years alongside intermediate stoppages every two years. The company emphasizes that these scheduled interventions are vital for ensuring safe operations, maintaining technological reliability, and adhering to environmental regulations.
