The commissioning of the Pecineaga wind farm in Constanța County marks a significant advancement in Romania’s renewable energy sector. Developed by Eurowind Energy, this project aligns with the country’s broader objectives for cleaner electricity generation and sustainability.
With an installed capacity of 48 MW, the Pecineaga wind farm represents an investment of approximately €90 million. The facility features eight Siemens Gamesa SG 6.6-170 turbines, each equipped with 135-meter towers and 85-meter blades, culminating in a total height of around 220 meters. This deployment introduces some of the latest advancements in wind turbine technology to Romania.
Adrian Dobre, Country Manager for Romania at Eurowind Energy, noted that this project reinforces the company’s strategic position within its core European markets, which include Poland, Germany, and Denmark. Following the launch of Pecineaga, Eurowind’s operational capacity in Romania has increased to 124 MW. Additionally, the company is currently developing energy storage projects totaling 120 MWh.
The new wind farm is anticipated to generate about 176,000 MWh of electricity annually, sufficient to power approximately 48,000 households. This output is expected to enhance the share of renewable energy in Romania’s electricity mix and contribute positively to system sustainability.
Since its entry into the Romanian market in 2011, Eurowind Energy has been actively expanding its footprint. The company boasts a development pipeline estimated at around 7.5 GW across various projects including wind, solar, and energy storage initiatives. Its portfolio also includes several solar parks and a battery storage project currently under development in Teiuș.
Looking toward the future, Eurowind plans to invest approximately €300 million annually in Romania through 2030. The goal is to establish a diversified portfolio of up to 1 GW across wind, solar, and energy storage technologies, further solidifying its commitment to enhancing renewable energy capabilities in the region.
