Romania: OMV Petrom launches innovative drilling campaign

OMV Petrom, the largest integrated energy producer in Southeastern Europe, has initiated a new drilling campaign utilizing a cutting-edge automated drilling rig owned by Foraj Sonde Videle. The campaign is currently focusing on several fields in Oltenia, Muntenia,and Moldova, with plans to expand across OMV Petrom’s entire portfolio in the future.

The primary goal of this campaign is to tap into new resources from mature fields while enhancing the safety and efficiency of drilling operations. So far, two new gas wells have been successfully completed on schedule and within budget, demonstrating improved efficiency compared to traditional drilling methods.

Cristian Hubati, a member of the OMV Petrom Executive Board responsible for Exploration, stated, “The new technologies enable us to boost production from mature fields and help minimize environmental impact. We are proud to collaborate with our colleagues from OMV and our partner Foraj Sonde Videle in utilizing one of the most energy-efficient onshore drilling rigs in the world.”
