North Macedonia maintains full domestic electricity supply in September 2025

Electricity consumption in North Macedonia reached 373,518 MWh in September 2025, while natural gas use totaled 19.4 million cubic meters. Coal consumption amounted to 368,114 tons, and the use of petroleum products stood at 95,577 tons. According to the State Statistical Office, domestic production covered 100 percent of electricity demand during the month, and 99.9 percent of all coal consumed was used for electricity generation.

Total gross electricity production amounted to 391,740 MWh, roughly the same level as in September 2024. Thermal power plants generated 204,165 MWh, representing 52.1 percent of total output and marking a 45 percent year-on-year increase. Hydropower plants produced 41,862 MWh, down 31.8 percent compared to last year, while CHP plants generated 85,884 MWh, a decrease of 41.5 percent. Wind farms provided 22,450 MWh or 5.73 percent of total production. Biogas facilities contributed 4,447 MWh, and solar power plants (excluding prosumers) produced 32,933 MWh or 8.4 percent of total output.

Electricity imports amounted to 109,740 MWh in September, down from 150,637 MWh a year earlier. Exports reached 127,962 MWh, compared to 122,846 MWh in September 2024.
