Hungary, First solar energy community established

The local council of Keszthely and MVM Optimum, a subsidiary of state-owned MVM, have set up Hungary’s first solar energy community with the participation of local homeowners and businesses.

The two sides signed a contract on the construction of 1.1 million euros worth solar power plant and battery storage facility. Keszthely Mayor Balint Nagy said that households and companies, who were unable to independently install solar panels, joined the pilot project.

MVM Optimum smart city and energy community director Krisztian Huber said that the company is contributing around 500,000 euros to the project, while the Innovation and Technology Ministry is providing the remaining sum.

The solar energy community comprises of 20 retail consumers, five small businesses and some local council institutions.
