EPS award to SECO

On the occasion of the ceremonial session of the Management Board of Electric Power Industry of Serbia (EPS), held on 6, October 2011, key representatives of EPS awarded the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) in recognition of successful long-term business cooperation. The ceremony was attended by representatives from the government of the Republic of Serbia, business partners of EPS and donors.

Switzerland has been supporting Serbia in the electricity sector since 1999. It started with emergency aid consisting in assistance to the import, installation and completion of urgently needed technical equipment and spare parts. This first phase amounted to a total of EUR 7 million. In 2003 a four-year project aiming at the upgrade and modernization of the National Control Centre of the Serbian electric power company (EPS) was initiated, in an amount of EUR 10 million. As a consequence of the successful long-term cooperation between EPS and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), Switzerland decided in 2009 to finance the new control and monitoring system of Tent B power plant in an amount of CHF 10.6 million. The project is an important Swiss contribution to the sustainability – including on an environmental scale – of Serbia’s energy production.
