Croatia: Electricity and hydrocarbon production in December 2024

According to the short-term energy statistics published by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, net electricity production in Croatia for December 2024 reached 1,509 GWh, which marks a 1.9% decline compared to the same month in 2023, when production was 1,538 GWh.

In December, hydropower plants generated 604 GWh, or 40% of the total electricity, while thermal power plants produced 490 GWh, accounting for 32.5%. Wind farms contributed 309 GWh, or 20.5%, and solar power plants produced 26 GWh, representing 1.7% of the total output. During the month, Croatia imported 1,131 GWh of electricity, reflecting a 13.2% increase compared to December 2023, when imports stood at 999 GWh. Conversely, electricity exports totaled 885 GWh, a 3.4% increase from 856 GWh in December of the previous year.

In terms of hydrocarbon production, Croatia produced 64 million cubic meters of natural gas in December 2024, which is a 10.3% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Natural gas imports, however, fell by 16.6%, totaling 181 million cubic meters, compared to 217 million cubic meters last year. Crude oil production remained stable at 42,000 tons, the same as in December 2023. Additionally, the production of petroleum products surged to 299,000 tons in December 2024, a significant increase from just 42,000 tons in December 2023, due to the turnaround at the Rijeka refinery last year.
