Croatia, Country to build its second LNG terminal

Croatian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development approved the construction of the country’s second liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Gazenica port in Zadar, which will further reduce Croatia’s dependence on Russian natural gas.

After last year’s commissioning of the LNG terminal on the island of Krk, Zadar will also be drawn on the gas map of the Adriatic. The developer of the project is the state-owned company LNG Hrvatska, the operator of the existing terminal. The construction of the terminal will be done in three phases in the next four years.

In the first phase, near the ferry port Gazenica, a port for tankers, a tank for liquefied natural gas with a capacity of 3,000 cubic meters and the associated infrastructure will be built. In the second phase, the storage capacity will be increased by an additional 7,500 cubic meters to 10,500 cubic meters of liquefied gas.

In the last phase, it is planned to increase the storage capacity to 30,000 cubic meters of gas, and the terminal will meet the highest international standards. It is also planned to build a new substation, a control building for the gas terminal, new cargo space, a new sewage system and a wastewater treatment system.
