Clarion Owners Engineer leads supervision for challenging 150 MW wind park project in mountainous terrain

Construction has commenced on a cutting-edge 150 MW wind park grid connection project in a high-altitude mountain region, with Clarion Owners Engineer overseeing the project as the Works Supervisor and Silver& Yellow FIDIC Engineer. This major renewable energy infrastructure project, executed under the Silver FIDIC EPC (Engineer, Procure and Construct) contract, is set to bring clean energy to the region, involving complex grid connections and high-voltage transmission lines for 150MW Wind park, WTG installations and related works.

Project overview: Grid connection and core infrastructure

The grid connection facility ( Yellow Fidic EPC) will link the 150 MW wind park to the national power grid, contributing significant renewable energy capacity to the region. The project includes the construction and commissioning of 33/110kV and 110kV substations, along with critical high-voltage transmission lines to carry electricity from the wind park to the grid. Key infrastructure includes the installation of advanced transformers, switchgear, protective relays, and other equipment essential to ensure the safe, efficient transmission of power.

As the designated Works Supervisor and Silver & Yellow FIDIC Engineer, Clarion Owners Engineer is tasked with ensuring the project meets all technical and regulatory standards, providing a stringent layer of supervision and technical oversight throughout the project lifecycle.

Navigating high-altitude challenges

Located in mountainous terrain, the project poses unique logistical and technical challenges, requiring specialized solutions for restricted access, steep gradients and variable weather conditions. The Yellow FIDIC EPC contract places responsibility for design and construction on the contractor, with Clarion Owners Engineer overseeing compliance and quality assurance under challenging conditions on both Silver Fidic EPC and Yellow Fidic grid connection facilities.

Clarion’s role also includes implementing robust health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols tailored to the high-altitude environment. Large number of contractors present on the site creates the HSE coordinating role a complex and challenging role. Given the terrain and weather, the team has developed flexible work schedules and comprehensive emergency response plans, ensuring that operations remain safe and efficient.

Testing, commissioning and integration

Upon construction, Clarion Owners Engineer experts teams lead the testing and commissioning phases to ensure the facility’s compliance with technical standards set by the Transmission System Operator (TSO) and Distribution System Operator (DSO). These final stages involved rigorous testing of individual components, system integration and synchronization with the grid to ensure stability and reliability, leading to the issuance of the Takeover Certificate (TOC) and the formal handover to the TSO/DSO.

Each phase, from pre-commissioning tests to full system integration, were closely monitored by Clarion as the Yellow FIDIC Engineer to maintain the highest quality and safety standards.

A landmark project in renewable energy

This 150 MW wind park project is a landmark in the region’s renewable energy development, promising a major contribution to sustainable power and carbon reduction goals. It is a private investment from renowned international company and Clarion Owners Engineer manages the overall project construction on Silver Fidic rules basis, providing also technical support as Employeer Representative.

The successful connection of the wind park to the national grid will supply clean energy to thousands of homes, furthering national commitments to renewable energy and environmental stewardship.

The project is slated to be fully operational and integrated with the grid upon completion of wpp major equipment works, reinforcing the region’s position as a leader in renewable energy and setting a new benchmark in wind energy infrastructure.

Clarion Owners Engineers operates in emerging South East Europe region and EU energy and heavy industry projects as technical advisory & Investors/Lenders Representative.
