According to Bulgarian media, state-owned gas supplier Bulgargaz has agreed another shipment of US liquefied natural gas (LNG), which will arrive at the Greek Revythoussa terminal on 2 July.
According to data provided by Greek natural gas transmission system operator DESFA, Bulgargaz has book terminal capacity to receive 62 million cubic meters of liquefied natural gas or 65 % of tanker’s capacity, which will be enough to cover a quarter of Bulgaria’s monthly gas demand.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed, but it was noted that the deal was agreed without the participation of any intermediaries.
Earlier this week, Bulgargaz said that it will launch an auction for the purchase of up to 45,000 MWh of gas per day on the Balkan gas hub for the delivery from 1 July.
Bulgaria had bought two LNG cargoes of about 200 million cubic meters of gas in total for the delivery in June. Although it was not officially confirmed, Cheniere is the supplier of agreed two LNG cargoes for Bulgaria. Cheniere is the company with which Bulgaria has an old long-term contract for the supply of liquefied natural gas but it has not yet been activated. It should enter into force after the commissioning of Greek LNG terminal in Alexandroupoli, in which Bulgaria has 20 % stake.
