The state-owned utility EPBiH of Bosnia and Herzegovina is advancing its renewable energy initiatives by commencing a significant solar project in Gračanica. The utility has issued a tender for consultancy services to facilitate the development of this project, which is supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
This procurement process encompasses the provision of supervision and owner’s engineering support for a solar installation estimated at around 39 million euros. Companies interested in participating in the tender have until 18 May to submit their proposals, indicating a structured approach to project management and execution.
The solar initiative will comprise two adjacent power plants with a total capacity of 50 MW, located in the village of Gracanica, within Bugojno municipality. This site has been rehabilitated from its previous use as a coal mining area, representing a significant transition towards utilizing land for sustainable energy production.
Funding for the project has already been secured, with the EBRD approving a loan of 25 million euros in August 2024. Additionally, UniCredit Bank is contributing 15 million euros through a parallel financing arrangement, illustrating strong financial backing for this renewable energy endeavor.
The Gračanica solar project marks a pivotal move for EPBiH as it embarks on one of its first large-scale solar developments. This initiative aligns with the company’s strategic shift towards renewable energy sources as part of its broader decarbonization strategy, reflecting an increasing commitment to sustainable practices in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s energy sector.
