Bosnia and Herzegovina: Jadran-Naftagas seeks environmental permit for oil and gas exploitation

Jadran-Naftagas, a subsidiary of the Serbian NIS, has applied for an environmental permit to exploit oil and gas in Obudovac, located in the municipality of Samac in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina. The company is requesting approval from the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Construction and Ecology of the Republic of Srpska (RS) for operations on a site covering 1.669 hectares, with projected daily production of 20 tons of oil and 49 cubic meters of gas.

Founded by NIS and Zarubezhneft, Jadran-Naftagas signed a 28-year concession agreement with the RS Government in 2011, allowing for three years of exploration followed by 25 years of exploitation. In 2023, the RS Government authorized the extraction of 4,800 cubic meters of oil from an exploration well in Obudovac, alongside testing the quality and chemical properties of the resource. Prior consent for resource exploitation had also been granted.
