Slovenia: Production results at DEM

The largest producer of electricity from renewable sources in Slovenia, hydropower plants on the Drava river, operated by the company Dravske Elektrarne Maribor (DEM), conclude the year with the third highest electricity production in their history producing 3,150 GWh of electricity in 2020, or almost 19 % more than planned.

CEO of DEM Andrej Tumpej said that the company is also developing new projects for the production of electricity from renewable sources, which includes wind farms, solar power plants and geothermal power plants, as well as electricity storage systems.

Thus, the construction of 13 wind turbines at three locations in the area of northeastern Slovenia and the installation of a solar power plant with a capacity of 30 MW on the supply and drainage channels of HPP Zlatolicje and HPP Formin is planned.

Also, a map for the exploitation of the potential of geothermal energy has been made, and the construction of pump storage HPP Kozjak is planned, which will be an excellent follow-up to the project for the construction of Cirkovce-Pince transmission line, which additionally connects Slovenia with Croatia and Hungary. Of course, the construction of small hydropower plants on small watercourses in the Drava basin will be also considered.
