Serbia: EBRD considers 50 million euro loan for energy efficiency

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is considering providing a loan of up to 50 million euros to Serbia to help it implement energy efficiency measures in multi-family residential buildings.

The project targets buildings in up to fifteen local self-governments, with the measures expected to lead to energy savings of more than 35%, the EBRD said in a project summary document.

The sovereign loan, whose provision is currently in an exploratory phase, will cover most of the total project costs estimated at up to 62.5 million euros.

The project is expected to enable the switch from lump-sum to consumption-based billing for the participating buildings, which will contribute to significant energy savings and decrease CO2 emissions, thus improving air quality.
