Romania, Electricity consumption in the first five months of 2022 amounted to 22.23 TWh

According to the data published by the National Institute for Statistics (INS), electricity consumption in Romania in the first five months of 2022 amounted to 22.23 TWh, which is 4.1 % less compared to the same period in 2021.

The data show that industrial electricity consumption reached 16.38 TWh, which is 3.5 % less compared to the same period last year. Household electricity consumption amounted to 5.59 TWh, which is a 6.3 % decrease. Public lighting consumption rose by 11.1 % amounting to some 256.4 GWh.

Total electricity production reached 24.12 TWh in the first five months of 2022, which is 6.1 % less compared to the same period in 2021. Production in thermal power plants decreased by 3.9 % and reached 8.77 TWh. Production in hydropower plants decreased by 24.7 % to 6.31 TWh, while electricity production in nuclear power plant Cernavoda increased by 2.3 % to 4.66 TWh. Production of wind power in January-May 2022 rose by 22.6 % compared to the same period of 2021, reaching 3.63 TWh. Solar power production reached 744.6 GWh, 11.4 % more compared to the first five months of 2021.

Electricity exports in January-May 2022 amounted to 2.51 TWh, which is by 13.7 % less compared to the same period in 2021. At the same time electricity imports increased by 1.1 % and amounted to 3.11 TWh.

Total production of primary energy resources in the first five months of 2022 amounted to 7,436 million tons of oil equivalent, which is 4.7 % less than in 2021. Coal production reached 1,192.5 million tons of oil equivalent (- 1.5 %), oil production reached 1,224.1 million tons of oil equivalent (- 6.2 %), while production of natural gas reached 2,957.3 million tons of oil equivalent (- 5.6 %).
