Romania: Delgaz Grid to modernise two transmission lines

Electricity and natural gas distribution company Delgaz Grid plans to modernise its network of high-voltage overhead lines under two projects worth a total of 48.8 million euros.

A subsidiary of German utility E.ON submitted funding requests for the high-voltage network overhaul projects, aiming to receive 190 million lei from the European Union’s Modernisation Fund, the company said in a press release.

The main works proposed are the installation of almost 1,350 km of increased-capacity conductors and about 400 poles, the installation and the integration into the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system of a Dynamic Line Rating (DLR) technology.

DLR is used to assess the transmission capacity of power lines in real-time based on environmental conditions that contribute to optimal network utilization, Delgaz said.

“The high-voltage grid is vital for the intake of energy generated by large wind and photovoltaic farms,” Delgaz Grid general manager Cristian Secosan explained.
