Greece, Trial operation of TPP Ptolemaida V reaches full capacity

The new, state-of-the-art thermal power plant owned by the Greek company Public Power Corp, PPC, TE Ptolemaida V has entered the final phase of testing ahead of official commissioning. The power plant is currently supplying electricity to the grid, gradually increasing capacity since the beginning of December without technical problems.

PPC’s Novo plant was delivering approximately 300MW by mid-December, almost half of its total capacity of 660MW, before increasing its grid input to 450MW last week. Then, as of December 18, the capacity reached 616 MW.

As is standard practice at the international level, new plants of this type go through three phases of trial testing. The first phase was implemented by the project developer, GEK TERNA.

TPP Ptolemaida V, a project worth over €1.4 billion, is expected to be ready for full commissioning by the end of February 2023. It will initially operate as a low-emission lignite-fired power plant before fuel conversion to natural gas.
