Greece: Electricity market shares steady, PPC at 49% in May

No major shifts in the retail electricity market shares of suppliers were reported for May, Energy Exchange data covering the month has shown.

Power utility PPC, the market leader, made a slight market-share gain in May, reaching 49.05 percent from 48.64 percent in April.

PPC’s market share remained below 50 percent for the third successive month in May, indicating that the electricity supply, long dominated by PPC, is now balanced between the power utility and independent suppliers.

Independent suppliers captured a combined 50.95 percent share of the retail electricity market in May, virtually unchanged from the previous month. Mytilineos, whose energy division has now been renamed Metlen, led with a 17.14 percent share, followed by Heron (12.3%), Elpedison (6.59%), and NRG (5.86%).

PPC achieved a marginal gain in the medium-voltage category, reaching 34.64 percent from 34.28 percent in April.

In the low-voltage category, PPC experienced a slight contraction to 63.1 percent from 63.36 percent in April.

As for the high-voltage category, Mytilineos remained at the helm in May with a market share of 42.35 percent, followed by Heron (24.38%), PPC (19.9%) and Elpedison (11.07%), energypress.eu.
