Bulgaria: Overhaul of pump-storage HPP Belmeken overhaul completed

National Electricity Company (NEK) has completed the overhaul of the pump-storage hydropower plant Belmeken in which it invested nearly 10 million euros, the Bulgarian Government said in a statement.

The project involved the design, manufacture, supply, installation and testing of hydraulic cylinders, along with turbine equipment such as new regulators, nozzles and deflectors. Additionally, it involved the implementation of new excitation systems, generator circuit breakers and control and monitoring systems for the entire facility.

NEK has also launched the overhaul of unit 2 of HPP Chaira, which should be completed by the end of the year. The total repair costs for the entire power plant, including its three other units, are expected to amount to 41 million euros.

HPP Belmeken is part of the Belmeken-Sestrimo-Momina Klisura hydropower complex. The power plant has a total installed capacity of 375 MW in generating mode and produces an average of 294 GWh of electricity per year.
